Thx for the recommendation. I've entered into the "empty nesting" gardening phase of life. I was considering MGP but am more interested in using native plants in my landscape.

You will be glad you did. Saves you money, time, labor, plus you provide host plants for insects and it's just down right pretty. One big tip: don't forget to plant for fall colors. Spring has tons but falls get forgotten

What does Extension charge for MG training where you are? Here it's just volunteer hours, which are served largely at the farmers' markets. What they learn is fairly good, although clearly the group you are citing is offering a lot for almost nothing.

Ours is 150 for book. Then nothing is free. You have to serve many many hours selling their shit or pimping the 150 book. You can learn more from my outpost feed. I swear. You can not use it on a resume. Worthless. Take a college course. MG does not make masters just smug gardeners.

When I lived in South Florida, I replanted my backyard (over time) with as many native plants as I could. Eventually earned my Wildlife Habitat Certificate for my efforts.

Looked at google earth pix of the yard years after selling the house and they had ripped out all those lovely natives. Sad.
