Fuck Microsoft, Google, Apple, Meta, X

My data is MINE.

That’s why I use Linux, NextCloud, Bluesky, and I am changing my phone to a Google Pixel (used) and changing the OS to Graphene OS.

If anyone is interested in doing this too, I have some great resources for you.

When I refer to data I’m more talking files and banking info. Nextcloud is self-hosted and doesn’t relay information to the company, Graphene is Google-free, Linux requires no cloud/online account to use. On Bluesky, AT protocol lets you remain in control of your account and data as well.

no yeah, hard agree for nextcloud (even if it sucks balls), linux or graphene, they do allow to stay in control of your data

its just, surprising to me to see bluesky

cause if i decide i dont trust the bluesky team anymore, not sure i can do much except leave the platform, no?

Well, I think AT allows you to bring your data with you to other platforms then you can just deactivate your Bluesky account. At least that’s how I have understood it. It’s an “open-source” social media networking protocol in nature.

Yeah, when it comes to social media it’s a lot more tricky. I know AT is domain based, so you can use your own domain and I think that gives you even more control. I need to do more research into it though. I have a domain I would like to use…

pretty sure the data-handling part, and the domain name handld is two different part

i got my custom domain handle, but i dont host no data yknow

unlike on mastodon where i host my own instance and own my data

Eventually you’ll be able to deploy your own Bluesky server or another implementation of it and migrate your data out of Bluesky control. It’s in their docs (iirc)
