In the time since then, I had hoped that the political noise surrounding the tragic mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a US Army helicopter near National Airport would have died down.
That the investigators would be able to continue their difficult work free of unnecessary distraction and the air traffic system would be able to resume its commitment to the safe carriage of hundreds of thousands of people in America each day.
Instead, last Friday, the Trump/Musk administration was forced to clarify that its deceptive attempts to encourage mass federal employee resignations would not apply to “positions related to public safety” such as air traffic controllers.
But it also unwittingly revealed the fact that the initial plan was rushed, unvetted, disorganized and sent with disregard for the consequences on public safety in the first place.
