I worked there for over 2 years in the 80s. I've stayed in touch with Canadians since. It's an apathetic, boring and mediocre country, combining the worst of UK with the worst of US. Far too focused on wanting the world to think it's "nice".

I don't want it to buckle, but I believe that it will.

Trump doesn't really want a 51st state - it would mean Canadian representation in Congress. What he really wants is control over their territory and foreign policy.

Eventually, I think that's quite likely. But not in the immediate future. In the short term I think they'll bend over backwards to give Trump everything that he wants by way of control and effectively determine its foreign policy.
