Plenty of people will tell you as a world-class architect Libeskind's a great graphic designer. I hope there are some local education specialists involved, who will produce a usable building.

Ackshually, sorry to be reply guy, but all the new schools in the new suburbs are amongst the best architecture in the area (a low bar). The quality of new build schools remains high, at least in Vic.

Which is not to disagree that the funding balance is totally whack.

It used to be that way until the 1970s (?) when the federal government started funding private schools when it was discovered that some Catholic schools were lacking basic necessities (although it could be argued that monies held by Dioceses could be directed towards needier schools)

If all of that money went into the public education system instead, we would have more schools, they would be better equipped, the class sizes would be smaller, and the education standard would be higher.

I have to wonder why we let our politicians get away with so much.

The policy made back in the 70s has certainly outlived its usefulness; when I was going to a Catholic primary school, we had to do chores - one year I was watering pot-plants, another I cleaned the girls' toilets; it was to keep the school fees down by not employing a cleaner 1/2

I imagine most politicians send their own children to private schools, and that is why so much public money ends up there. It is just another rort.
Religion has as much of a place in education, as it does in politics, no place at all.
