Hyperbole on the degree, but solid point. Apple works hard to keep their hardware solid for years to come, see resale value for how the general market views the devices.

@privacypirate.bsky.social That wasn't planned obsolescence. In fact it was the opposite. People were keeping their devices so long the battery was exhausted and causing inadvertent restarts. So Apple had to introduce a feature to ensure the device was safe and usable well after its expected EOL.

Sure but I mean, they "fixed" a phone that was old and needed to be replaced with code that made it so slow people needed to replace their phone.

As opposed to what? It rebooting every time you use an app? People can put up with a device being slower to prevent inadvertent shutdowns because they didn't want to spend the money on a new battery, but you can't use the device at all if it's rebooting constantly.

Totally, but not every phone would have that issue. It probably depends on a lot. Being slow specifically because of code is always true. And it's rare that a company has pure motives. Either of way it's not the same as people believing the earth is flat.

I think you've missed my point. The devices only got throttled when the battery was exhausted. That situation, as I said, is actually the opposite of planned obsolescence.

Believing Apple intentionally slows or breaks devices to sell more devices is flawed logic, like thinking the earth is flat.
