well the whole idea is for it to not just be a port of HL1 with ragdoll physics, source lighting, hl2 decals and particles—itd be completely remade but still stay true to the original gameplay and level design

Black Mesa takes a lot of liberties and does not follow the same formula that valve followed. plus the designs just.. don’t look that good character wise

half-life source was effectively a tech demo---valve didnt want to change its assets. it and CS:S were tests to see how modders could port their goldsrc mods to source, both taking different approaches

CS:S went for the graphical overhaul while HL:S went for the port

HL:S isn't inherently /bad/, its major issues nowadays come from lack of updates and it being labelled as the definitive way to play HL1 in its steam description

even if its bugs didnt exist, the novelty of the source features wore off and most of them are out of place (decals, particles, water) due to the complete graphical differences
