2) internationally (&nationally — check out my thesis on Montgomery County, MD), social housing works by including residents from across the income spectrum. This allows for *Cross-Subsidization* — basically, people w/ higher incomes pay higher rents, subsidizing their lower-income neighbors… 2/

A bonus of the cross-subsidy model is that it prevents class segregation. Historically, families w/ the lowest incomes have lived in completely separate neighborhoods from those with higher incomes, creating health &educational disparities. 4) 1A was designed specifically for social housing, to create funds that can be used for the development of housing at all income levels. Traditional affordable housing funding does NOT allow for anything above 80% of the median income, making cross-subsidization impossible… 5/

5) this brings us to why 1B is trash. It DOES take away funds from existing sources that are meant for community organizations &nonprofits to build low-income &community-based housing, &
