A theory: Aetherdrift holistically is a lot better than Murders or Thunder Junction.
The apathy, or frustrations, that we see is a result of attrition - an audience worn down, from the compounding derpiness of themes and "holodeck episodes".

I actually like Aetherdrift quite a lot more than I was expecting, ngl.
That said, it seems like a lot of drafters have been warming up to it quite a bit (myself included)
Now we've got Saddle/Mount. Max Speed/Crime. Disguise/Manifest Dread.
Maybe they'll be able to dial in "subtle synergies" eventually, but right now, it's clunky.
So like, I appreciate that Gastal Thrillseeker is a Lizard for the BLB typal deck, but boy do I wish it was also an Outlaw type for the BR crime deck.
I feel like R&D will be able to figure that out given time. I'm just worried the brass will see the Magic IP sets selling lower numbers.
It would be one thing to have your yearly silly crossover episode among a bunch of normal releases
But this year it’s one of only three in-universe magic sets. Between that and UB, this year is primarily silly sets
Not like Clue and "oops all cowboy hats" 😮💨
Tragic.
With one caveat... I can't think of a mechanic which feels more 'silver border' in standard than "Start your engines!". Maaaaybe you could argue "commit a crime", except THAT'S so much cleaner and intuitive mechanically.
It's a space they are committed to not only exploring, but packing full to the brim.
