I’ve played since Chronicles, make 6 figures with lots of disposable income, and have been rabid for Magic the whole time. Read every novel in between set releases. They’ve lost me with these prices. AFTER Final Fantasy (I have both morals and weaknesses).

The concept of having a minimum of four premium sets this year (up from two last year) is just completely lost on people.

They can’t understand the want for less product naturally means some product lines HAD to become more expensive as Hasbro/WotC are a corporation after all and line must go up.

In many ways I think the reason we have UB at all in standard is literally to both fulfill that want for less overall products, for products to be more expensive to offset that loss and maintain standards power level. They can justify everything to designers, shareholders and customers equally.

What I marvel at is that folks will spend $50 on a SpongeBob alter, which is what's created the market for UB in the first place, and then get upset when WotC finally capitalizes on the interest two decades later.

The community never had a backbone. Some of this may just be the non-confrontational nature of people playing the game or the huge pivot from the pro circuit into commander being the main format. WOTC removed 3 PPTQs from my country and our WCQ, then pandemic stopped FNM

I love competing(part of why I like fighting games). MTG clearly told me I wasn't welcome to my favorite card game back then and just like they pivoted I also did. My favorite game died 5ish years ago and it recorded record profits.

It sucks man, I showed interest in MTG last year in anticipation of the FF set. Ended up really liking Edh and making 7 decks playing weekly/biweekly with my friends. Only for it to be such a gouge in price. Do you stick it to them by skipping what you wanted for a year, or do you cave? I'm not sure

I am taking the stance of not ever buying UB sealed product while they are at these elevated pricepoints while also being frustrated and saddened to see a favorite childhood cartoon of mine be appropriated for MTG in this way. Laziest UB secret lair since Fortnite.
