It really is a bit late over here, but I did set aside a partition and put Mint on it. Turns out the sound doesn't Just Work out of the box, so I think it's time to leave that for tomorrow - as well as putting Steam on there. I'm kinda hoping I can symlink my way into reusing the same steamapps?

It vma be very much doable, depending on your needs.

I would encourage you to make a full backup of all your stuff, and take stock of what programs you run.

There are plenty of Linux distro that are great for newcomers.
And if you ask, especially here, you'll find people ready to help.

I don't plan on doing a full switch for now, just dual booting and using Linux as the main OS for a while, to see what pops up as I go along. Mostly I'm wondering about gaming really as the rest should be fine (...and chiral scrolling, I love chiral scrolling) but I hear that Steam supports it well?

Ooof, I was unaware of the thing with win11 with the secret screengrabs every x seconds. All the more reason to stay on win10 (not that it's super good, either) until it's no longer possible and then move onto something else. Mint didn't work out, I guess I'll see about Debian.

Debian is the underlying system for mint so you may run into issues still, if those issues originate from Debian and not whatever Mint changes from that.

I personally recommend @garudalinux.org as it's optimized for gaming and what I personally use for my rig. Also heard good things about Bazzite

Debian was also a dud. The complete dealbreaker that stopped my messing with Mint was the fact that sound refuses to work. It MAY be some sort of weird hardware issue that Windows is able to work around but Mint/Debian weren't. Right now I just want sound, I'll see about making it look nice later.

I can also vouche for both of those.
While Garuda's garrish "gamer" theme may be off putting to some, you can absolutely change the theme to something that suits you.

And having recently tried Bazzite for my HTPC, it's very easy to set up and get what you need.
