A lot of people are showing their true colors these days. And an unfortunate thing that I have seen a lot of personally is a complete lack of concern for the suffering of others outside the US. It's rather jarring to hear someone say "why should I care?" about the potential deaths of millions.
No, they never do. They don't even consider the possibility that they could be wrong. They alter their perception of reality to make themselves correct. This is the core of conservatisim; correctness through force of will.

I mean I’m going to be real my general impression of him and others like him (e.g. WanderingDreamer) is that they are the subset of neoreactionary who actively get off to the knowledge they are the baddies
In New Orleans I saw a handwritten cardboard sign posted high up on a telephone pole, "think that you might be wrong." Felt very poignant to me but I have no idea if that message sticks with the people it's supposed to.
Ime, people from cosseted backgrounds like this generally don’t perceive of humanity for people who come from socio economic profiles below upper middle class places (eg Walnut Creek)
There's lots of exceptions. In the past, rich people saw philanthropy as a noble endeavor. But now we live in a social media hellscape where trolling and "owning the libs" is more important than doing good.
They do not. I have to be constantly reminded of the fact that there is a significant portion of "humanity" that is incapable of feeling empathy for people they do not know personally.
It honestly keeps me up at night trying to comprehend what that would be like.
Every day I'm more convinced that empathy is something you're either born with or you're not. You either have it, or you don't. It doesn't seem to be something that people can learn later in life.
