The IRS told us there is an error in our tax form. This has never happened to us before. We are awaiting a letter to tell us why. I have a bad feeling this is happening to others too.

I got a letter on Monday saying I had unpaid taxes from 2014.

I do not have unpaid taxes from 2014.

Either someone is fucking up the system or all their info has been compromised

Weird. My IRS account shows there was an internal inquiry in late Jan. about if I’d filed taxes yet (I haven’t). Today I received a call from some agency stating I had unpaid back taxes (I don’t) & they would help me get those paid. I am now thinking all these things are all related.

Of note - I blocked that company but I am thinking it would be good to tell folks to log into their IRS portal, check their records, and download copies of what is there just in case some system breach is allowing tinkering with records.
Honestly- we need to assume the worst w/ these criminals.
