In honor of me almost reaching an entire YEAR of querying TSW, I figured I'd make a thread of stats, things I've learned, and everything in between. So buckle up, #amquerying friends. (1/?)

Feedback on Fulls & Partials:
Agent A: thought my character was cruel & unlikeable, liked my magic
B: loved the characters/world/plot/pacing/voice but didn't ultimately connect enough
C: loved the magic, couldn't put her finger on what wasn't working (hypothesized pacing or world building)
(3/?)
D: loved the world, didn't quite connect to my main characters
E: form rej
F: struggled across the board, especially w/ world & magic
G: was engaged w/ the world & pacing but wanted more personal style in the prose
H: said my premise & writing was really strong but they needed to be selective
(4/?)
We've all received the "this is a subjective business" line and many are frustrated by it...but it's the truth. Some agents loved things others really disliked. I've changed some minor things due to feedback, but I've not done a major overhaul of the entire manuscript (6/?)
My opening DID change significantly, however. One thing Agent A said was my exposition was a bit of a struggle for them, and I completely agree. So I personally worked with an agent who also does editorial work and revamped my opening and query package. This was INVALUABLE to me as a writer (7/?)
A lot of this sounds like my own writing journey. Currently in the middle of getting help with my intro, and WOW has it ever benefited my revisions! Revising has been grueling, but can I ever see a difference! Query letter revision further down the line. Hoping for a full req after.

Now, on to the things I've learned!
I particularly wanted to share my responses on submissions because it just goes to show truly how subjective publishing is (5/?)
