Part of the reason the deficit is so high is Trump convinced the fed to keep interest rates near 0 at the beginning of Trumps first term.
Raising rates then ( good post Obama economy) would have cushioned the coast of Covid.
Instead there was no reserve & we borrowed heavily

Multiple analysts I’ve heard over the past week have said that if Trump tries to fire Powell, it will be horrible for the long term health of the economy and our world standing, which is already much diminished due to Trump’s actions. Fortunately, Powell doesn’t seem cowed by Trump!!

It's the credit rating thing that keeps me up. If US debt gets downgraded to under A, that's going to be world changing for people. That means less real sovereignty for the American people in terms of budgets. Think what would happen to normal consumer if they tore up contracts like Trump does.
