Thank you for making this more visible. I have family members who are profoundly Deaf and ASL is their primary language. If they were in California and ASL interpreters were banned from press conferences, I would be terrified for them.

I don't think they will be banned. I think it is possible we may see more Andrew Cuomo-type situations where people will actively choose not to have interpreters in these situations.

Banned or not, the simple fact is that without ASL interpreters, the Deaf people among us would not have access to the necessary information to make good decisions and save lives, which is the GOAL of these public announcements.

Um, there were Deaf people working in the twin towers in NYC when they fell. Without a Deaf-friendly form of communication, the Deaf in the towers were left to perish. Without ASL interpreters to help relay the evacuation messages about hurricanes Helene and Milton, Deaf people would have died.
