I can't think of a single reason for Uber to make tipping more difficult except to fuck over their drivers. It's not like it's money Uber has to pay them. Uber is simply making it harder for customers to pay them. It's evil on a level that I know I shouldn't be shocked at by this point. Yet I am.

I'm not a fan of these apps and avoid them as much as possible, but at least in California, with Doordash, a tip is a suggested part of the ordering process AND they offer the ability to increase the tip very easily from the app after delivery.

That's how it used to be with UberEats, now you can still tip after the order has been made, it's just a little bit more difficult, so a lot of people probably stopped doing it.

Since tips aren’t a known cost, I wonder if they sit in some third-party escrow account that charges Uber a per-transaction fee? Not that it would justify this dark-pattern nonsense, but it’s the only thing I can think of beyond pure cruelty. (And tbc, it’s probably just cruelty)

They still ask me to tip before I order 🤔 They should make it mandatory & more clear that the tip is a bid for service and if you don’t set it high enough no driver will want to accept your order

I don't know if drivers can just block a customer right after an order if there's no tip so they never get that customer again, I hope they can, but given how evil Uber is, I don't know if that's the case.
