craziest thing about endwalker to me is that I've never done the araids and I still don't know what they are at all. I don't know if I've ever heard anyone talk about them

you meet the twelve and they're just more ancients. menphina is a 12000 year old minor but at least her theme song went off. the conclusion is presenting something so bleakly horrible as good and aspirational that i ragequit the game after i finished
it wasn't so much "lore" as just like. here's some guys venat knew. they all hung around for a few thousand years doing nothing but people in eorzea worshipped them as gods. we're not going to tell you anything about how any of those religions functioned on a social level. and then the ending.
i am biased because i have never been interested in "what if gods were definitively real or fake" and am interested in "how do religions affect people's lives" and hate when suicide is presented as pure and beautiful
it turns out the entire reason the twelve were fighting the wol was to trick the wol into helping them kill themselves and this is just like. fine and a happy ending and not the most awful thing i could imagine
in my experience this is an unpopular opinion but i really liked them. their purpose iirc was to kinda manage aether levels or something but it meant they were super full of the stuff and it had changed them so deeply they werent really people anymore, the prayers had filled them w so much
aether it fundamentally eroded their personhood. the balancing thing was smth to do with helping venat with hydaelyn, so when venat died they had fulfilled their promise to her, and all they really wanted after that was to give back all the aether to the world/people.
it didn't read like suicide to me at all tbh, i see how it could but it read a lot more to me like. breaking down a dam. they aren't primals but the prayers still built up so much aether they couldnt spend back, i believe due to the nature of what venat and them did at the sundering?
they fight the wol and have you defeat them bc it breaks down the aether enough for them to release it back into the world. i don't think they were just ancients, they were ancients changed into something that could manage and be molded by aether.
they were kinda like caricatures or just, like, ideas given form more than people. i don't think the characters who witness it decided to tell most of the world though, bc it would destabilize so many things + the prayer aether is going into the earth now so it won't accumulate.
idk. taking down dams is what i keep coming back to, bc it felt like we were kinda talking to ghosts or creations more than people, and their dissipation restores a ton of aether that was lost due to fandaniel's antics. at least that was my read!
The story, imo, is absolutely fine until the ending, which is shit. The Twelve designs themselves and the glams from all three are really cool, though. I personally think they’re fun raids, too.
i think they were a strong hit or miss for a lot...
miss for me personally. gameplay wise i enjoyed them but they wouldn't be my favorite either??? idk.
Pandemonium are my favorite raids ever but I'm an ancient/ascian fan so I'm biased. I recommend them tho they're pretty fun and the story ties up a lot of loose ends
the only parts i found interesting personally were the quests in between where you see some of them observing regular people. everything else was kinda uhhh. mid
they spend most of the story going ooh what ARE the twelve teehee...then give the most boring and predictable answer they possibly could
yeah lmao i remember alliance raid difficulty specifically being a point when the ff11 alliance raids were first mentioned in DT promo stuff bc they were like "we're raising the difficulty bc ppl complained the previous ones were too easy"
n yeah i feel like first runs with 0-1 wipes is... not good
yea i dont think they upped the difficulty well, they said they were specifically targeting 3 wipes for a full alliance of first timers but i did it on i think day 2? of release and we only wiped once, so... maybe they need better QA testers lol
