To be clear, I think Putin sucks.
But I don’t think want to live in a world governed by the American empire.
They are objectively bad for the world.
Requirements for joining NATO include numerous anti-corruption mechanisms within the applicant's government.
This is why Russia was not simply admitted into NATO and refused to apply just like everyone else.

Putin invaded Ukraine in 2014 over Ukraine seeking membership in the EU, not NATO, Kiddo.
They called the protests "EuroMaidan", after all.
It was never about NATO.
