Yes, Garland's failure to prosecute was not "being a centrist" it was allowing one man to sit above the law. Then Trump's Supreme Court was able to give him immunity. Justice-for-all, even for the president, was supposed to be one of our checks and balances. The next 4 years will be rough.
Many of us have been screaming about this for 2.5 years to no avail. Biden has staff that reads social media. Did he think we were making noise for nothing? The cowardice of Garland--and of Biden for putting up with that charade could have cost us the election and possibly our democratic govt.
Indeed. Biden’s biggest mistakes, and these are devastating ones.
1. Merrick Garland
2. Pretending the pandemic instead of ending it
3. Dropping out so late in the campaign
Correct. Joe Biden ran in 2020 to "save the soul of our nation." Well, he gave it back to Donald Trump and Maga in 2024. History will not be kind to the Merrick Garland / Joe Biden duo.
Biden biggest political mistake was the appointment of Merrick Garland as attorney general. His presidency will be remembered by this if our democracy go downhill during the next four years. Donald Trump should have been in prison for the Jan6 insurrection, not allowed to run for president again.
Everyone is capable of making mistakes. At some point, the mistake gets compounded knowing a mistake has been made and not fixing it becoming the the even bigger mistake
Garland was more than a mistake - he is the reason we are where we are today. Our mistake was not demanding he step down. He is the stain in this administration.
There really does not have to be *one* person at fault. We need to stop this unhelpful game. Garland had his faults, but the Supreme Court was HUGELY to blame, as were the FBI, Secret Service, certain federal judges, like Cannon.
Good article. Merrick Garland was a disaster as a pick and we will all live with the frightening fallout for the next 4 years. Trump should never have been on the ticket. So when you think these appointments aren't that important (looking at the misfit toys Trump is selecting) - THEY ARE.
And remember how all the democratic pundits on cable news kept running to his defense saying we don’t know what we don’t know? They were wrong and we knew he was protecting Trump and the presidency because he didn’t want to be the first AG to indict a former president! I call BS!
I'm constantly being told that it was better to have never brought the case, garland did great, and I just don't understand, rather than bring the case before the election and take a chance at losing. Meanwhile, Brazil and South Korea seemingly made out OK.

Everything changed after J6, an insurrection where the capital building was stormed by a violent mob and people died.
Comity is not an option in the face of violent insurrection
It is the one day in my lifetime I truly believe cops should have shot a lot more people.
