I may grow a little vegetable garden for the first time in my life. It may be the only way to get produce because of Trump and Elon. Will start small and "doable". Yams, tomatoes, and something green and leafy.

Check your seeds climate zones and make sure all that you want can grow in your area. On our farm, we found out that tomatoes don't do well due to high foggy days per year, but ten miles inland they do great. For example.
I read a quote from an Afghan refugee who immigrated here. She said, if you have lentils and water, you will survive.
I plan stocking up on lentils because she would know.
They were called victory gardens during WWII. Maybe we could call them something different this time around. Broccoli is a cool plant and easy. No GMO though, legacy seeds.
I had an upstairs apartment once, was able to grow a large bush of cherry tomatoes in a hanging flower basket. some Romain lettuce in a long planter box and peppers do well in small pots too. Potatoes can be grown in a barrel. Just add dirt as they sprout and force the plant to grow up the barell
We did that during COVID. Was a life saver, literally. Drastically cut down trips to the store, and so, so good for the mental health. Potatoes are easy, and so is kale and green onions. Check out the Bluesky Gardening feed.
You’ve inspired me! I am going to research how to plant tomatoes, and cucumbers for sure. Maybe raspberries and blueberries could be fun as well. Thank you!
Lettuce. If you plant different kinds, including winter lettuce, you'll always have something fresh.
Radish. Potatoes. Rhubarb. Peas. Herbs (chives and parsley are easy).
Not the most beautiful, but we get way more than we need: radishes, peas, arugula, tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, lettuce, poblanos, strawberries, squash and more. Great exercise, too!
That’s totally beautiful! My own garden is more like an agricultural experiment but I think I’m finally going to produce more than a single side dish this year. 😂
Check out the garden section here and add 🌱 to garden entries. Just put out my milk jugs with seeds, called winter sowing, for some early greens and plants and started my onion seeds indoors
Victory gardens, were vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens planted at private residences and public parks in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Europe during World War I and World War II. Keeping a seed bank is also a good idea. Remember flowers for the pollinators too.

After covid we realized how fragile the economy and in particular logistics were and decided that we needed reduced reliance for basic needs.
