Councillor Colle said we should bring back downtown parking lots because people would rather have the "open space" of a parking lot to a condo. Good lord.

Tbf, those condo builders do 0 re providing parking or traffic impacts. just build condos, jams streets w/ traffic & leave parking up to the crowd. Saying that, I know parking lots are not the answer, they will charge high $$ to park. This inspired all the suburban shopping malls. Def not the answer

Building downtown *reduces* traffic, almost by definition

Traffic mostly comes from people who don't live near the city centre. People who live downtown are MUCH less likely to drive

Building large buildings downtown doesn't create people out of thin air, it moves people from the outskirts to the core, dramatically reducing the need to drive places. The people come to Toronto anyways, it's better for traffic if they already live here

I agree this is what should happen but here in us, Cars! We don't have the public transportation to support the carless. Auto manufacturers and big oil have deep pockets.
