Way, way better to just sell all American stocks and funds, and stop buying American products when alteratives is avaliable. Then we win without doing the Trump thing.
It might be counterproductive. We have to apply tariffs in a clever way, only on those products where we have a competitive disadvantage in order to stimulate internal production and close the gap. Otherwise you’d simply tax your citizen, with bad consequences on the economy.
In my view, we need to show Trump that we can do it ourselves and are not dependent on the United States. We can also produce what they produce in the EU, there are alternatives to everything. The rest of the US will wake up and do something about the problem from within.
And I agree, but listen to the economists who know what they are talking about. The exchange rate would adjust abruptly countering these effects. Tariffs make sense only in strategic sectors when you invest a lot in your domestic production to close a gap.
