Thank you for the reminder. The timing was of the vaccine was perfect: I turned 5 in October 1955 and received the Salk vaccine, and later the Sabin vaccine. Mine was the first generation of kids who grew up without fear of polio.

Mine too, in Brisbane Australia. I remember lining up in class for the vaccine with all the other kids & having no idea why(too little) . Sadly, at that time we already had too many kids in school wearing leg calipers after surviving polio.

My physician father worked in the polio wards in Boston in the 1950s during his residency training.

That means we degenerated from "vaccines are a miracle!" to "the guy in the supplements aisle at Whole Foods says vaccines give you diseases" in just one human's adult lifespan. Good job, everyone!

My mom remembered the polio outbreaks in the '50s in Winnipeg manitoba. Only part-time work shopping and home. No movies no get togethers no trips to the zoo park. Everything was shut.

Because she was good with numbers she work at a bank and this came to the notice of a local physician who was studying the outcomes of polio. He noticed that the more severe cases with poor outcomes and survival occurred in the upper socioeconomic classes.

I still remember my parents taking us in for the polio vaccine. I was ten. We stood in line, we received little pink sugar cubes. We did that at least 2 times I remember when I was 10 years old. 1963

I remember standing in line with my family to go into the Health Department for our polio shots. People were lined up for blocks. Everyone one was thrilled that there was a vaccine,and that their children wouldn’t have to spend time in an iron lung,or heavy leg braces.And RFK wants to bring it back?

That is not true, FDR himself was from a rich family and both he and his family got extremely upset when he was paralyzed with polio. You can take "everything is a class war" beyond the point of sanity.
