As of last year, here in the US 34 states, including my own, allow minors as young as 16 to marry with parental consent. Another 6 states allow it at age 17. Efforts to raise the legal age to marry repeatedly get voted down. Three guesses why.

Read the text of the law and tell your readers if it *actually* legalizes child marriage, and tell your readers.

And if there's actual ambiguity, spell it out.

The minimum age to get married in Canada is 16 but there are restrictions when under the age of majority (18 in Quebec, 19 elsewhere).

In 2015, Canada made it so a person under 16 cannot be married. Before then, there were a few jurisdictions that allowed marriage as young as 7!!! 🤮
