... And as I hear more stories from its other authors and the money it owes them - and the pain and distress that has caused - I am even more reluctant to stay silent, and could not live easily with myself if I did..

... I remember what @danrhodes.bsky.social wrote when he had similar (though also different) issues with his publisher. I retweeted it at the time and thought, "Why aren't more people talking about this?" Similarly, a lot of big name authors know what Unbound have done. But have not said a word.
Another piece about my ex-publisher in The Times today. Inaccurate information about my new novel, though. I pulled it from release, due to their breach of contract, and got my rights back. So I don't "have to sell the copies myself". I can't sell the copies when they don't exist.
... I am, however, selling copies of my previous six Unbound books myself. More like five now, as all the copies of Villager had gone. It's been a slow-build novel which was selling very well, more than 2 years after publication. But bafflingly it had not gone into another reprint.
Yep. Also not so baffling: the uncanny doomy feeling I had when 1983 was published last summer, that, despite the fact I'd written the best book I could, and done everything I could to get it out there, something was about to go very badly wrong.
I heard from another author I had pledged to, saying their book is still being published. I can't work out what the rationale is behind who is/is not being taken across to Boundless, it suggests an even bigger mess than I can possibly imagine.
Sadly, that’s typical. 20 years ago, I dealt with a publisher with a well-known in retrospect record for screwing over authors, but precious few would SAY anything for fear of getting on his bad side…if he became a bigger deal. “You know, complaining MIGHT get you in trouble…”
