Football players and coaches are just ridiculously obsessed with the idea that nobody believes in them. Plenty of people have written and talked this year about how well the Minnesota Vikings have been playing. This is not some sort of state secret.

Dr. Joy Browne on her advice show would say “You could stick an M&M in your ear if you think it would help” (I think this mostly was about quitting smoking). It’s abort getting into the right mindset for things. Athletes seem to feel as if this gives them mental edge, even if there is not disrespect
related phenomenon of high school teams saying that they shocked the world. cousin, it's just me and your mom in these grandstands. the world remains unshocked.
I read mostly skeptical stuff (talking articles not skeets) about them (mostly due to QB) until the past few weeks when I read more "well Darnold could do it". About no one i read took them serious till recently
I've been annoyed with this narrative for years. "They wrote us off and disrespected us. We will prove them wrong," and it'll be from Tom Brady in his 7th superbowl or some crap. American sports has an obsession with the underdog story to where I don't think teams know how to win as anything but.
No one talks about the Vikings. A bunch of power rankings consistently put the Pack ahead of them despite the Vikings winning in GB. I think you’re right that players and coaches are obsessed with that, I believe in the Vikings case it’s true.
I'll defend them. The Vikings after McCarthy went down were expecting to be a tank team. They could very well be the 1 seed in the NFC and are only sixth in Super Bowl odds. Their QB is a cast away. A lot of people didn't believe in this team
