I went to a gig last night: a thread 🧵
It was Petey USA at St Luke’s in Glasgow.
Look! There he is at the venue!

Good gig.
Weird support shenanigans.
Young people don’t know when to clap or what deserves applause.
Watch out for Christianity sneaking into your musical messaging.
Guiness 0.0 at gigs when you’re driving is The Tits.
Thread ends 🧵
xx
Dull end to a dull thread, huh?
But… during the show I did notice something.
A worryingly noticeable amount of Christian, Jesus, Bible references.
Have I been duped by TikTok comedy into a Christian gig?
But it was a bit too close for comfort.
One of the new songs he did was a bit lame (about time passing) and had some Christian lyrics in it and, at that point, I thought that everything could Go Bad.
But it didn’t really.
But here’s the sort of thing he does…

Here’s a song of his that I like (but he didn’t play it last night). Anyway…

Arrived at the show earlyish last night and the support act was on.
Didn’t catch the guy’s name.
One guy. With a Telecaster that he occasionally waved a hand over.
Most odd.
And the audience are there, appreciating and clapping (quite a lot) between songs.
Everyone in the audience was between 25 and 35 btw (years old, not weight in stones).
One guy, not really playing an instrument, singing over music that sounded like a Prefab Sprout karaoke track.
And, everyone else in the room is “yep, this is good, I like this”.
I’m incandescent at this point.
This is not music.
This is not a support act.
Not some bedroom karaoke w*nkery.
So the support act sucked.
No biggie really, it just made me feel a bit less concerned about AI killing music.
