What did people expect? I thought this at the time. Those that voted Brexit because of immigration (and they mean dark skinned people because they are the only visible immigrants) shot themselves in the foot. If EU workers can't come here, then those vacancies need to be filled from other countries.

It's easy. The numbers are cumulative since 2019, and as well as no one coming here, EU citizens who were already working here have left. That takes it into minus territory.

If you're measuring annual change & the annual number of immigrants from the EU was 100 & the next year you had 200, that would be a 100% increase.
If it was 50, it would be a 50% decrease - if instead 200 people LEFT the UK for the EU, then it would be a -100% decrease.

In other words, a LOT more of (almost certainly mostly our highly-skilled and talented professionals rather than unskilled labour) chose to leave the UK for better opportunities in the EU.

And although it's hard to be 100% certain where all of the jobs are bleeding from, one thing is certain - a huge amount of them are those finance/service sector jobs Thatcher promised would replace the needs for mining and manufacturing in the 80s.

The response to the petition from the government fails to acknowledge the £22B blackhole, immigration misrepresentation and Rwanda cost underreporting.

They cannot be held to pledges made about removing the EU in good faith when the Tories lied to make the outlook look much rosier than it is.

My point is that the @teamlabouruk.bsky.social should not feel obliged to maintain their electoral pledges because the past government lied about the state of the economy upon which those pledges were made. Not changing tact when presented with the truth is not acting in the national interest.
