Regarding Tanith Lee; for those just embarking on her work, I feel that literarily she's a bit like the little girl with the little curl on her forehead. When she's bad she's horrid (in a fascinating florid purple way) but when she is good, she is very, VERY good. I recommend Biting the Sun.
