I've kind of enjoyed the first couple eps of The Studio. But...who greenlit this? And why did they throw gobs of money at it? Half-funny unless you live in three zip codes in southern California.

The problem is that what people in those zip codes (including Seth Rogen) think is cutting satire of their own industry just comes off to the rest of the country as how we imagine them to actually be.
On Apple, Shrinking also has a big share of self-involved characters, but it harnesses them to explore humanity and interpersonal relationships. It's great. The Studio, so far, is a collection of soulless caricatures.
Yeah, plenty of that, and I like that. I guess the thing that bothers me is -- despite the axiom "write what you know" -- can't they get out in the world and look for ideas for shows with more resonance?
