I appreciate it, but like I said, I really don't think actually making games is in the cards for me (brain stuff, don't want to go into it). I was more asking about peripheral stuff: writing, reviews, essays, idk.

Ah. Well, there's a lot that goes into making games, especially at larger studios. Publishing, community management, HR, facility management, security, legal, etc. Generally building up a work history would be where you'd start, then it'd be a combination of networking and opportunity.
