I think you have to consider what an unrestrained MAGA might do to Hunter after Joe leaves office. Lots of them would like to see him waterboarded daily at Gitmo.

Father Biden granted pardon to his son Hunter. He did the right thing. Forgiveness is the greatest of all graces a father can bestow upon a son. Not doing so would be reprehensible, inexplicable, and indefensible. There are no political issues in this pardon. Period

It's kind of impressive how he's managed to spend so many years on Earth without cultivating a single positive trait besides being theoretically biodegradable.
Biden wouldn't have pardoned his son if a democratic president was following him. With an authoritarian bent on fascism being installed, I can not imagine anyone doing anything else.
