Saying this as a het man, but as an 80’s kid, Val Kilmer playing Perry Von Shrike in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was probably the first time I’d seen a gay character portrayed on screen, in a mainstream movie, as something other than a walking stereotype or side character.

Kilmer's last released appearance was in Top Gun: Maverick, and that scene is probably going to be even more moving to watch now, but that handled Val and his circumstances with so much care and respect. It's a fitting fairwell.

Val got a load of great lines in Tombstone as Doc Holliday. Everyone remembers "I'm your Huckleberry", but my favourite is when being accused of being so drunk he has double vision: "I've got two guns, one for each of ya!" Fantastic movie.
