The actors might think their work will stand apart from the author, but it won't. It's all tainted, and is already tainting them by association. People are already asking questions on the press tour for a Hollywood blockbuster, and it hasn't filmed yet. That's not a good sign.

If the author merely said something in an interview once or twice that was hateful then I wouldn't want anything to do with them but could perhaps understand wanting to separate the art. However, when the author is openly giving money from their works to hate organisations that's not possible.

I've seen an argument--and I'm not sure if I quite agree but I can see the reasoning behind it--that the show is going to be made either way, so it's better that they cast someone pro-trans rather than a transphobe.
