I think the only election I can think of where we even came close to the opposite was France, and it fucking worked until Macron had to get all fascist appeasement about it

Liberalism is parasitically dependent on fascism. Without the threat of fascists to keep the commies in line, they would be forced to cede power to the left.

They know they can't have this, so they fueled the fires until they lost control of them.

Its the only logical thing for them to do, to fail to would be to become subsumed. They don't agree with leftist philosophy, so therefore they MUST resist destruction... Which means they must always kindle fascism to carry as their stick.
