Your generator should be placed at least 20 feet away from your home. The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. If you feel yourself experiencing any of these, get outside immediately.

Regulate people running them inside? They're mostly disaster victims, and the police would all be busy. Regulate the CO output of generators? CO is just a thing that happens when you burn gas.

Also note: the generators all have warnings not to use indoors, but sometimes people don't know the difference b/w a "This gives you cancer in California" type warning, and a "No really this will kill your whole family" type warning.

CO is heavier than air, can build up in nearby low-lying areas like ditches, culverts, wells, crawlspaces and basements.

If you feel drunk or sleepy or start yawning, get to fresh air immediately – while you can still move.

Nah. The average person doesn't know how much carbon monoxide comes out of these products. Unless you've read up on carbon monoxide you also likely don't know how fast it can kill. We've seen people from all walks of life make this mistake and no one deserves to die like this.

On top of the normal teacher teaching us, we also had a had a firefighter come and tell us about how different gases affect things etc. I've known exhaust gases are lethal since I was like 8 years old.

Sure, but did you know that running a portable generator is the same as turning on 400+ cars at once? From a device that's about the size of a mini fridge? From what we've seen, many people don't. That is an education problem, but not one you can put on a school system.

Well not the numbers but we were taught that having anything that uses fire running inside was stupid and lethal. I dont think its important to teach about how many cars it equates to, just that it kills you.

A.) Many Americans have gas appliances in their houses. They may not realize there's a huge difference between those and a generator.

A VERY important reminder. I know nothing about generators except that they are dangerous enough that under normal circumstances I would not try to use one.
If you have one, the safety info is SUPER important to understand completely.
