Ok, this picture is painful. If yo're gonna cut and paste a kid and some cactii into a picture, PLEASE try to line up where the sun comes from. That nightmare mess gives me a headache with all the angles the light comes from....
Let me guess, your graphic artists got laid off under the current leadership, or the budget left you with enough to buy a 2 piece mcnugget dinner and naught else?
Not trying to be mean, I'm genuinely concerned.
This is one of those good-news, bad-news situations. The good news is no graphic artists have been laid off! The bad news is we've just always been link this.
We thought we were adding a clearly comical amount of cacti to this image, but some of your responses make it seem like this is a completely normal amount of cacti to have in a home.
The only houses I've been to that have had more than two cacti have had at least a dozen cacti, though in fairness most of those houses also had lizards so some of the plants were in terrariums. Terraria? Terrerii? Anyway, they're smaller.
Well, specifically you should not have a Saguaro cactus in your home, especially if you live outside of the Sonoran Desert, as this would be a violation of the Arizona native plant law.
That seems like only a problem if you live in Arizona, though, since it’s a state law. There are 49 other states where having a collection of large, stabby plants inside your home is perfectly legal.
My home IS overflowing with cacti, but baby is learning that we look, don't touch! (Ask your mama, kiddo, why she keeps grabbing tweezers for her hand.)
Pesky poisons, on the other hand, locked up and away. Out of sight, out of mind for a good while.
This pic just reminded me of Untold Stories of the ER- a kid fell into a bunch of cacti growing near a pool while dressed in a swimsuit, so lots of exposed skin covered in thousands of tiny cactus thorns. The docs wound up using large hair removal strips to pull the thorns out en masse.
I had a cat who LOVED to eat plants. I gave up trying, but one day I saw a cactus with extremely long, sharp spines, and bought it.
But the negative reinforcement didn't help. He kept on trying to eat the cactus, even though it clearly hurt when he bit it! I finally took it away and just gave up 🤷♀️
When I was in kindergarten, a police officer came in to talk about things in the home that were poisonous. And they gave us a sheet of Officer Ick to put on things that were poisonous. I put it on the expected stuff. But I also put one on my dad's big crown of thorns cactus named Buster. Just sayin
A few weeks ago, the mom of the kids I babysit spilled some ibuprofen. Bright blue capsules, look very much like candy. She did her best to best to clean them up, but apparently didn’t get them all. I know this because the 1-year-old handed me 2 of them later that evening, and said “mommy’s.”
Definitely always keep medication out of reach of kids, but also, teach them to recognize pills as something they need to give to a grownup right away! Older kids may take pills for fun, but little will often hand them right over if they know they’re supposed to.

PS. Most cactus spines can be removed with duct tape.
Encourage it, too. Kids and pets learn not to screw around with cacti.
