I didn't know anything about it when I went into the Thomas Jefferson Building (the main old building). It is ASTONISHING! 1890-7, Beaux Arts style, "theatrical, heavily ornamented and kinetic". (You want modernist architecture, go find an office building.)

Went for a visit, couldn't find 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or brave new world. Mein Kampf was super easy to find, had a display right up front.

LOC’s Packard Campus of the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center is also quite beautiful in a very different way. You cannot tour the facility, but their magnificent theater does public film screenings most Fridays and Saturdays.
