ex riot writer who developed A LOT of the most beloved skinlines for the game and modern stuff on the lore side but got fired after arcane s1 (probably bc they didnt want to pay him any sort of residuals) i wonder why

It always makes me upset to see the stuff ex riot employees had to put up with and how much of that is reflected in some of their works. I can't imagine seeing my characters bastardized and destroyed in the way they did to Viego, tfgraves, etc
Wait thinking again about how even in the art book there's the whole implicit admission of how the og writers of pilt zaun were confused about the centrism the series was taking and direction (which og lore wasn't that much better but it still was something)
Here! I misremembered it so the centrism critique isn't there but very simply put even riot themselves were confused with the direction they were taking as the bare minimum
And the above lines where they acknowledge the very literal oppression of piltover on top of zaun, I'm reading too much good faith into this but I do think some pilt zaun writers were miffed by the changes
this makes me so sad man, i recognized that when i read viegos lore and am still horrified by his simps that rly do think he does nothing wrong. viegos REAL there are so many men out there just like this
(also just as an addition, from what i could grasp at the time jared left bc he wanted, and if my memory isnt that shitty he left around when k'sante was released so was not necessarily about arcane season 1)
the timing is suspicious to me bc he completely wiped his social media and had his writing coming out on multiple projects at the same time, writing layoffs happened later and we saw the total pause of the 'lore' side. imho he knew
!!!!!!!! if im not mistaken he mentioned that the working flow during the pandemic was very bad and he didnt felt like working with riot anymore, but looking back now he definitely felt the smoke in the air
I can’t speak for the //woobification// of Viego specifically but I do understand the fandom’s desire to want to do something else with him because imo his narrative is honestly pretty boring and like the narrative ball was dropped for him. You set up a big ghost king for a least two years and he’s-
finally revealed and he’s “toxic narcissistic manchild” and he’s also sexy and shirtless.ok?? THIS is the big world ending event you decided to do a year long event for?? I got there a few weeks after the visual novel dropped when Arcane ended and I still felt disappointed by his character 💀
i dont think he made all these choices, champion ideation involves multiple people and checkups with other decisionmakers esp when it comes to "what is their selling point? what is their sex appeal?" and the lore he did write was often very good at being dramatic! he did short stories!
