I could talk about how authenticity is often beaten out of people by a society that rewards conformity in the most formative years of our lives buuuut, I have many many thoughts on that. Strangely authenticity is revered on a macro scale by society. David Bowie on a small scale would be hated by society if not enough people knew of him. However he is adored and revered as a pioneer by society at large. But if only a few people knew him they would think he’s a freak.

Except authenticity is often under attack. If you’re queer and that is a big part of your identity it’ll matter a fair bit. We’re not in a live and let live era. People will try to tear you down if you wanna break away from the norm or tell you to quit dreaming if you are seen as too ambitious.

Again, if you live authentically, you do it regardless of circumstances. I'm not saying it's easy.

Agreed, we need people to try if we wanna see a shift in society and do away with self repression and stigmatization of self expression. I.e hair color, tattoos, piercings which seems to be on the backslide, again.

If you're willing to be authentic all the time, it's a kind of power. Your life and the people in it will match you better and better over time- even if you lose some.
