Because a core tenet of the Trump cult is that gun violence (particularly at schools) is low-key funny and a chance to promote insane conspiracy theories. Virtually every school shooting now beings with a “transvestigation” by lie-drunk bigots, followed by the usual parade of idiocy.

So much of these are d*ck moves aimed at 1) disorienting, 2) signaling/fresh meat to the base to keep them satisfied while egg prices stay the same, 3) covering up corruption and true aims (such as rolling back the US Council on Transnational Organized Crime).
