Listened today (a bit late). Adam Arkin may have been cast as he played a gourmet chef living as a hermit in a cabin in Alaska in Northern Exposure. Basically a prototype for Cage's character.

When I was a zookeeper, Red River Hogs were my favorite porcine breed to work with. Much larger & capable of killing an adult human, but when raised in captivity, they can’t get enough skritches from their handlers. Super affectionate! Cage would have been safer with them than Brandy.

I listened to this episode while working, and my impression of it when I first saw it was that the writers deliberately took the exact opposite plot turn at every opportunity. Turn right for a beatdown? NO! Left turn for a heartfelt conversation. Go straight for some secret info? NOPE! CHEF FIGHT!!!

PIG is my favorite Cage performance, and you’re right- he doesn’t have comebacks, he has a roller coaster career. He’s just never gotten off the ride. Ever.

He’s the definition of *commitment to the role*, which might be why some are put off by his choices.

I love his art and am watching PIG now.
