A mother of three is having a dizzy spell and needs aspirin. It's implied that the family is poor so one child goes inside to ask for the aspirin with a friend the other two stay outside. They are literally just borrowing medicine from a neighbor
No, I got all that. What I’m having trouble with is why aspirin? Was aspirin super pricy when this was made? It just seems like a lot of trouble for aspirin.
Think of it this way medicine was sold in a bottle you could rarely buy only a few. Some people live paycheck to paycheck everything is accounted for if you run short on something buying a expensive bottle of medicine could put you back. Along with the cost of travel to actually go to the store.
“Aspirin should not be given to children aged under 16 unless on the advice of a doctor. This is because there is a very small risk that children can develop a condition called Reye's syndrome if they are given aspirin when they have a viral illness.” Reye’s can be fatal*
Of course. It’s all in good fun, too. But I watched a 13 year old girl go through 6 months in the ICU and suffer brain seizures as a result of Reye’s. So hence the PSA.
My pleasantly psychotic soulmate gifted me a Nancy & Sluggo coloring book on our 3rd date. We simply assumed, Jazz age comic artists, were high on mescaline, mushrooms & DMT precursors; like Bonzo Dog, Betty Boop & everybody assumed it was PTSD from the WW1, Jim Crow, poison booze & pollution!

Was that meant to be funny?
