To be fair, I always thought Sakurai (as brilliant as he is in most regards) acted like a kid on the playground who got angry somebody played with his toys before asking him so he never brought them back again haha. I mean sure but I can’t say I blame him. What creator wouldn’t be upset that fans went and leaked everything instead of letting it be a surprise for everyone.

On a personal level, for sure it would suck. I have a lot of sympathy for that. But we’d have no more games with cutscenes if all developers reacted accordingly haha. They dipped their toes back into it with ultimate so maybe it’ll happen again now that it’s been long enough.

It’s definitely an argument in favor of a brand new ground-up roster that can be calibrated for a proper story mode. It would be really hard to balance the ultimate roster unless each character was in one level at most haha (although Nintendo certainly has the budget to do it)

Despite playing at least 20hrs, if not more, I don't even remember the story from the world of light. It couldn't have been great.

Subspace emissary? Oh yeah I remember it 17 years later. Sure, being 12 years old at the time probably has a lot to do with it....but still.

Not even a contest. Subspace emissary has loads of cutscenes and lots of fun pairings.

Ultimate has an interesting opening cutscene where everybody gets infinity war’d but Kirby (lol) but then there’s not much until the end which is mostly short cgi clips of light / dark entities fighting

Ultimate admittedly was a sequel that picked up right after Subspace left off.

Tbh I haven’t even finished the final boss fight because the fact there are multiple endings is nerve wracking.

Also having to kill both of them at the same time.

I have massive admiration and respect for him but I 100% agree

Also in a very childlike way, he goes "No! Mines the best!" When it comes to Kirby being OP in smash.

Also, toys is a great analogy since in smash, it's been confirmed that the characters are actually toys being played with.
