Also, to anyone who declares that 'we are one people' - no we are not. We are one country with different people. Every time I go into a predominantly Maori event, it is like walking in a parallel universe and that is a thriving and vibrant parallel universe.
Events-wise, organisation and management seemed seamless but underpinned everything really well. Also extraordinarily good natured, every greeting was in te reo. I'm pretty sure this was taking place in Aotearoa, not NZ.
Not impressed at all by the staging in The Bowl, though.
For those who know The Bowl, judges and VIP marquees blocked at least half the usual view lines and the stage had been rendered all black so it was very hard to actually see the performers on the stage. Basically, most of us were viewing on the big screens, of which there were several.
So go to the bowl to check it out with compromised visibility or sit in our lounge with a beer in hand watching it on the telly.... Decision made, thanks.
Except that the vibe of the place is not replicated in your lounge and it's a very specific vibe. But I don’t understand the decision to stage it as they have.
