i see that elon fanboys have mostly given up on the "he's going to save humanity and take us to mars" line and the new go-to rationalization is "actually, he's innately cool," which to be frank is actually a less believable lie

elon fanboys have a real calvinist definition of cool, where some people are born preternaturally cool despite not actually possessing any of the actual attributes that traditionally make one cool
so they can look at this sweaty nerd who's basically doing the 21st century equivalent of quoting monty python routines at you and be all "oh you don't understand, it's not your ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR that make you cool. in fact, it makes to regard this huge self-aggrandizing dork as cool for reasons"
Just how Christians look at Trump and say "His immorality is proof of his morality," dudes look at Elon and say "His uncoolness is proof of his coolness"
Much like how most arguments for flat earth inevitably dive into a antisemitism gorge, Musk's fanbase only really likes him for the same reason they follow Edward Hendrie.
I definitely have more confidence in "he will get mankind to mars" simply because he's likely to do so by shear tenacity and investment in the space tech. Doesn't mean he won't get a ton of people killed doing so though.
I suspect they only think he's cool because he's basically them, just with a lot of money and power. And if he's cool, then surely they must be cool too, and all the people who respond to them with disdain and disrespect are wrong and totally lame.
god I wish these ppl would wake up LOL he does not possess coolness or even above average intelligence, he just possesses more money than god and is making it everyone's problem that he can't buy his way out of being the cringest most divorced loser 😭

Anti-cool, maybe. Which is a completely different presentation.
It is even more baffling than steve jobs' cult
