IMO, those kits(third party knock offs)save you money, but the quality is poor. I've read a lot of posts on some FB groups like, "This kit looks amazing, but assembling it was a bear.", etc, etc. I can't stand rip-offs of Bandai kits. It gets my goat.

I build for fun, not frustration.

I haven't seen anyone mention Moderoid yet. The more recent stuff is fantastic, and they do a lot of properties that Bandai just doesn't. If you want to build super robots, Moderoid is the go-to.

Tamotu, one of the first kits I ever built! It's just very cute and it's poseability/movability is insane. I also love the other Marutoys looks, but haven't had the pleasure of building those kits.

Kotobukiya's Asra line seems nice... Says the fox who's had Asra Ninetails and Asra Tamanonomae in his backlog for so much time they have new bodies available for them that some like and others are eh about.

I've been rather tempted by several in their Hexa Gear line too.

To get a feel of the kit, try the Thunder Incise for 1/144 because it's the cheapest for a personal choice I'd say "Iron Sickle". I really don't know the quality of the 1/100 but if it's anything like the 1/144 then I'd say it's good.

Came here to recommend SNAA kits; see multiple people already have.

For 1/100, the Blade King and the Fire Lord are good grabs (but the Blade King instructions are VERY poor - supreme lack of editing). Triple check what it's asking you to do, and if the part they tell you to cut out matches.

For 1/144, they have an entire line of 'Round Table Knights' based loosely on Arthurian lore. All solid builds, water slides, highly detailed. Instructions are a lot better than the older kits as well.

Koto makes my fav plastic.
I'd recommend their TV Eva, Megaman/Rockman, Megami Device, and frame arms.
I'd steer clear of the KOS-MOS version 4.

Thanks! I have one Koto kit so far, the ZOE Dolores, i, which I keep eyeing as one of my next builds. I love the colors and lines, but I will never not giggle at the cockpit location on these frames. 🤭 Will have to strategically pose it for pictures after I'm done!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about new SNAA kits. If you want something more premium and gundam-like the 3rd party original(but still stolen design) kits like the Solomon, Monument and Ixchel are fantastic apparently.

SNAA is well-loved for its part quantity, but I thought the Iron Sickle was mechanically pretty mundane. Still have Fire Lord on its way here, though

Both are finger slayers. You’ll see. Third party kits are TIGHT fits

Thanks for the shout-out. Yeah sore fingers from pressing hard. I'll second recommendations for In ERA+ kits. Great part separation, lots of undergating which might be new if you primarily built Bandai. And mostly metal frames. I like SNAA but they're simpler but for the most part cheaper.

The Kotobukiya Mirage is my current reigning champion for the worst kit I’ve ever built. This one, originally released in 2005, because there are several Mirage kits. It was a fucking nightmare to build (though it does look really nice)

Are all of their Armored Core kits that bad? Idk

I'd probably cave on that Lineark White Glint if I saw a good price on it but yeah, heard not so flattering things about those old AC kits. Personally I've yet to venture outside of Bandai but I probably should at some point. Motor Nuclear makes some cool looking pointy stuff.
