I want to read something rich with detail about ribosomes. I pick up all these little tidbits in other things in reading, but I really just want 50-300 pages dedicated to them.

Don’t tempt me with a good time! Honestly, I may have to go to this. How else can I get the grad students to tell me all the things they suspect but cannot yet prove about the direction of the field in exchange for a mere 2 beers?
Yeah! As far as the ribosome goes, I always got the impression “that generation” was basically *him*, but I don’t know the field well enough to be confident about that.
In addition to the great other recommendations, for historical perspective Harry Noller's work, James Darnell's book on RNA, and Harrison Echols' Operators and Promoters.
Apparently Ada Yonath has a book too, but I haven't read it.
