@cstross There is also a a use case for the “reverse boss button”, when you are really doing important work and don’t want the boss to know. Probably useful in US government work these days.

Everybody has to reinvent the wheel for themselves, just so they know how it works!

(One of the weaknesses of D&D worldbuilding—there are many—is that magic users learn spells with consistent nomenclature and ingredients, rather than there being half-a-dozen variants on every theme to hack on.)
